The title sequence begins with intense low bass music that has a droning melody. The next thing we hear is the main character's voice over of him saying what he thinks about his wife; "When I think of my wife, I always think of her head, I picture cracking her lovely skull, unspooling her brains, trying to get answers. The primal questions any marriage; What are you thinking? How are you feeling? What have we done to each other?".
The next noise we hear is non-diegetic sound of someone talking on an air radio in an aeroplane or helicopter it is associated with the scene of a lake or an ocean. There is background noise of frogs and propellors turning. The next scenes are of a town, there is more non-diegetic sound of dogs barking and something metal being hit; all the while the same low bass, morning melody music is playing. There are sounds of birds tweeting and bushes rustling, water dripping in a drain and hawks cawing, there is noise of something being cut with a saw.
