Micro Analysis

Micro Analysis

Micro Analysis looks a specific parts of a title sequence in lots of detail. The four main things that are analysed is the camera work, the editing, mise-en-scene and sound. The film I watched and analysed was The Stepfather , I analysed the camera work which was very successful because the way it was filmed created lots of tension towards the build up of the horror. The camera movements used were tracking, panning and lots of close up angle shots to show expression , also to give clues about what to expect in the film. Mis-en-scene is everything on camera , there was lots of clues and hints showing happy family photos which contrasts the fact that he has murdered them. Also there are lots of Christmas decorations which is a happy time of year so that people will expect it to be a happy however it is the complete opposite. The editing was also very affective because there was lots of fading and match cuts which works well in horror films because it builds up tension also in the opening a flashback was used which also makes it more realistic, Sound played a huge part in the opening because the background music was a Christmas carol which usually has connation's of happiness despite the fact that his family have all been murdered under the Christmas tree.
