Intro to Genre: sheet Task 2

Task 2




Which genre do you think it is?
What are the main generic signifiers (tropes)? Characters / colours / props / locations / shot types / lighting etc…
How easy is it to identify the genre? Why?
Example 1


Medium shot, main light in middle, filler light in background, location in the a room around games table, main characters to right of frame and can see their faces.
I think its Crime Yes as there is a gun and a playing table which are usually seen in all action films with gangs.
Example 2


A long shot, location in the middle of nowhere, theres a tree, a noose, a horse, natural lighting.
Its western because there’s a cowboy on a horse.
Example 3


 
Two cars, and somebody  jumping. Natural lighting.

Action as it looks like there is a road rage fight, or car chase
Example 4


 
Two people sitting across from each other in an office. medium long shot. light coming from through blinds.
 All romance films start like this.

Soldiers, war torn city behind them. natural daylight.
 War film as it has soldiers, and a dusty, war torn city behind them.

Teen drama/ chick flick, lots of girls in a school

 Medium shot, 3 characters, all happy surrounded by colourful lighting.
Animation, can tell as there is no real people or real settings.

Sci-fi, is set in space/another world.

Period drama/romance, have historical clothes, and an old fireplace.

 The centre man loos funny, and satirical.

A man looking through blinds, he looks concerned. MS, light from blinds. 
Thriller

A girl in front of a house, suspicious of what might happen to her. natural daylight, long shot, maybe establishing shot. 
Horror/thriller, big suspicious house and a small girl in the forefront of the frame.
